Recommendations for tattoos and piercings
Remember, if you're thinking of getting a tattoo, don't sunbathe on the area where you want your tattoo.
As a precaution, we recommend using a high-factor sunscreen.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Leave the film on for four hours, then remove it and wash the tattoo thoroughly.
- Before going to bed, cover the tattoo again and leave it covered overnight. In the morning when you wake up, remove the film, wash the tattoo thoroughly and start applying the cream three or four times a day until it has fully healed.

- You must not go swimming at the beach or in the pool, and you should avoid sunbathing in that area.

- You can’t swim in the pool, but you can swim in the sea; just remember to clean your piercing when you get out of the water and apply the solution.
Everyone has a different pain threshold, and it also varies depending on the area being tattooed and the skill of the tattoo artist.
In our practice, the minimum age for consent without parental consent is 18.
The most important thing to bear in mind is that the studio where you’re going to get your tattoo should have the highest standards of hygiene and be a professional establishment; registered tattoo artists must have completed a hygiene and health course and have their vaccinations up to date.
The first question the tattoo artist should ask you is: ‘Do you prefer colour or black and white?’, and ‘Do you want it to be visible?’ Depending on the answers to these two questions, we can then move on to choosing the style of tattoo – whether it’s symbolic or simply decorative – that suits your personality.
When choosing a design, the area is very important, as certain designs can look distorted in some areas and may not be suitable; you need to work with the curves of the body so that the tattoo looks aesthetically pleasing when you move.
It is also worth bearing in mind that some areas are more sensitive than others and require more work or sessions.
Our studio charges a minimum price for small designs, and the cost varies from there depending on the time taken and the design. People often confuse an expensive tattoo with a complex, labour-intensive one – don’t just focus on the price when choosing a tattoo, as what you’re getting is a work of art on your skin that will last a lifetime.
Avoid sunbathing or using UV lamps on the area to be tattooed before your appointment. If you’re having a large tattoo, we recommend using a moisturiser up to two days before your appointment to ensure your skin is in perfect condition.
Let the tattoo artist know if you have any infectious diseases, if you are pregnant, or if you use foot straps or similar items.
We always recommend booking an appointment, even for something small. That way, you’ll secure a slot in the book and give the artist time to create or adjust your design if necessary.
For small tattoos or piercings, we can sometimes do them on the same day, depending on our workload, although it’s always best to call or email us to confirm.
The needles penetrate the epidermis and then reach the dermis. In this layer, our body has cells called macrophages; these cells recognise the ink as a foreign substance, causing them to encapsulate it and prevent it from moving, thereby making the design visible.
Some parts of the equipment are reusable, such as the tattoo machines and the power supply.
Once your tattoo is finished, the tattoo artist will cover it with cling film; you should keep this on for 3 to 4 hours, depending on the artist’s advice.
You should wash your tattoo with mild soap and water, then apply the cream recommended by your tattoo artist 3 or 4 times a day, massaging it gently into the skin so that it is properly absorbed, until the tattoo has fully healed. You must not scratch or pick at the scabs; you should let them fall off naturally over time.
Healing times vary from person to person.
Avoid swimming pools, the sea and the sun. (In the summer, once your tattoo has fully healed, we recommend using a sunscreen with the highest possible SPF; this will help keep the colours of your tattoo looking vibrant.)
Remember that 50% of the process depends on you and how well you look after your tattoo.
You should take care with certain exercises, depending on the area. We recommend that you avoid working out the tattooed area for at least a week, as you shouldn’t sweat excessively or stretch the freshly tattooed skin.
You will be able to give blood after a year. The blood will not be contaminated by the ink provided that proper hygiene is observed, which is why it is important to choose a professional studio.
We hope you’ve found this information useful and that it helps you decide whether to get a tattoo or how to look after it.
